Remote monitoring07 September 2009 The GSM module fitted to WERMA's standard 24V KS71 signal tower provides a simple and cost effective method of monitoring a machine or critical storage area from a remote location. The mobile 'phone transmitter unit is fitted to a standard KS71 signal tower and is able to send a simple text message to one or more recipients that the machine monitored by the tower has gone into fault mode.
The technology has recently been adopted by Watford based pharmaceuticals company DDD, which needs to store product under closely monitored temperature conditions to prevent deterioration and subsequent loss. With the help of local distributor, Access Electrical, a WERMA GSM mobile transmitter was fitted to a KS71 signal tower, together with a red light element and siren.
The cold storage unit temperature is monitored by a sensor, which, in turn, is linked to the signal tower and GSM unit on the roof of the unit. Should the temperature rise above a pre-set level, the GSM unit will be activated by the beacon/signal tower and an SMS message is automatically transmitted to the duty manager's mobile phone to alert him to the condition and prompt corrective action.
No additional communication line, hard wiring or complicated set up involving special programming is needed.
