Interface and cabling systems streamline PLC I/O interconnection16 December 2009 Weidmuller is offering interface units and cabling systems compatible with a wide range of PLC manufacturers I/O cards to offset the high costs of traditional point-to-point wiring installations. The PLC interface system offers an easy and quick-to-install method of wiring the inputs and outputs. Special front adapters replace the usual screwed connectors that are a common feature of PLC I/O cards. Signals and control commands are sent to and from the PLC via prefabricated leads and cables. The front adapter converts the PLC-specific connectors to an HE connector for ribbon cable (in accordance with IEC 603-1/ DIN 41651). The I/O modules are thus independent of the type of PLC employed. This type of wiring interface system has a number of advantages over point-to-point cabling, including faster design and installation, a reduction in cabling errors, greater flexibility and a more compact installation that takes up less panel space. Weidmuller's PLC Interface systems come with cables in a range of standard lengths, suitable for a wide range of PLC manufacturers, including Siemens, Schneider, Allen-Bradley, GE-Fanuc and Omron.
