Testing, disconnecting and earthing pilot cables

28 June 2010

With the risk of earth fault current ever present on low voltage auxiliary cables, the earthing of pilot circuits at a convenient position near the point of work is a crucial element of any installation. Weidmuller’s Klippon Pilot terminal boxes come as a complete unit for testing, disconnecting and earthing pilot cables.

These tough, durable boxes house the pilot core earths, as well as PPT/35 pilot protection terminals, a device that has been designed and developed to meet the ESI standard 12-4 1973 ‘Terminating equipment for pilot cables subject to induced transient voltages exceeding 650V rms’.

Mounting onto plastic rail type TSK35, and dimensioned according to EN50 022 (BS 5584:1978), the PPT/35 gives an insulation test level of 15kV ac for one minute. This covers the creepage and clearance paths between terminals, between the terminal and earth, and across the disconnect.
