MICROOPTO solid-state relays from Weidmuller07 July 2010The new MICROOPTO solid-state relays from Weidmuller can be used to control inductive loads such as solenoid valves or contactors rated at 24Vdc, 10A. The 6mm wide, IP20 protected module operates across a temperature range of -20 to +60 degrees C and can be deployed as a switch amplifier downstream of the controller output. Overload and short-circuit protection is included. When an error occurs, a potential-free signal is sent to the controller allowing the controlled machine to switch to a safe state.
The units are simple to connect via standard ZQV 4N cross-connectors and are simply snapped to a DIN TS 35 mounting rail. LEDs indicate that the relay is operating correctly(green), while a red LED indicates a fault condition.
Solid state relays offer several advantages compared with electro-mechanical alternatives. They provide long service life, are compact, have low power requirements and extremely fast response times. Loads are switched silently and bounce-free. They are insensitive to shock impact and vibration and, in addition, they do not subject adjacent component groups to electromagnet emissions or switching sparks during switching operations.
