The future's looking good01 September 2006Eplan Electric P8, the latest development from CAE, will be released 1st October 2006 in the UK. The P8 has optional graphical and object orientation, platform technology and complete data transfer from Eplan 5 and 21The Eplan Electric P8 has an array of diversity and a choice between graphical and object orientation. Individual configurations facilitate optimum customisation. Due to the macro-variant technology, projects can become variable. Additionally, the direct links to fluid engineering, instrumentation and control provide a shared platform, while integration into the IT infrastructure creates the prerequisite for integrated processes.
The new variant technology of the P8 helps to reduce design times and eliminate repetitive tasks. All component circuit diagrams may be created in the form of macros, from which variants may be generated and saved. In this way, a suitable, correctly dimensioned circuit can be selected in a matter of seconds. The macros are easily administered and with new projects the modification and redimensioning of circuits has been eliminated.
Very few projects escape without at least a few changes at the very last minute. With Eplan Electric P8, such amendments may be reliably integrated by selecting the suitable variant, rather than designing it from scratch. In this way, the data record remains consistent at all times, and potential sources of error are minimised.
The P8 offers both graphical or object orientation, meaning there is no need for CAE system users to choose between the two. With its two-part data model, the system guides users intuitively, and provides equal levels of support for both the graphical and object orientated approach.
The user determines the system’s behaviour, rather than the other way around. A graphics-based approach can often be useful when starting a project. The user remains in control of the situation at all times, even when copying. If an objectorientated approach becomes more appropriate at a later stage, the user simply switches. In this way, the user can benefit from this holistic approach, even within the same project.
Integration into the Office environment offers flexibility. Every Eplan data record may be transferred to the Excel editor, even by operators with no programming experience. In this way, the system becomes a universal tool that supports simple data exchange with other IT systems to ensure a consistent database extending well beyond the CAE world, as more and more companies are transmitting information in spreadsheet form. This solution allows faster processing of mass data, thereby accelerating the various processes from the design to the finished product.
Eplan Electric P8 supports all international standards such as IEC 61346, JIC, NFPA or the Russian GOST. The standard templates, evaluation forms and mapping of the different symbol libraries are defined. The system automatically converts existing projects into the chosen standard, eliminating the need for additional work. The P8 also allows any number of users to work simultaneously on one project, and distributed working means that sub-processes are parallelised and tight deadlines may be compensated.
With its Unicode capabilities, language barriers are no longer a problem, as Eplan Electric P8 is able to supply circuit diagrams in all languages, from Chinese wiring schematics to Russian bills of materials. Everything is translated online or following completion, thus simplifying international co-operation and making documentation easier.
The interface configurator supports individual adaptation of the interface in line with the user’s individual requirements, and also stores the configurations of individual work phases. For each editing stage, the information is immediately accessible. Thanks to uniform interfaces such as ODBC, XML or Excel, data from upstream processes is transferred and processed with Eplan Electric P8. Those migrating from a different system can get going with the P8 straight away, due to the flexible configuration and administration of the system. The functions a user employs to generate his results may be retrieved via an Application Programming Interface. In this way, all stages and operations a user would normally carry out manually become automated, and all connections to upstream and downstream processes are fully automated.
The Eplan project manager provides support assistance. This enables the user to utilise the software to its full performance capabilities and retain an overview at all times.
